CLEVELAND, OH – The beloved Kaiser Gallery, a vibrant cultural and social hub located at the corner of Professor and Jefferson Avenues in Tremont, has entered a new chapter. In October, local photographer Sam Skelton purchased the gallery, marking the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new venture. Tanya Kaiser, the original proprietor of Kaiser Gallery, is now focusing her efforts on her nonprofit organization, Kaiser Studios. Earlier this year, during the Cleveland Leadership Center’s Accelerate 2024 pitch competition, Tanya announced the launch of Renaissance Box, Cleveland’s first interdisciplinary Art & STEM residency program. Building on a legacy of innovative programming, Kaiser Studios is expanding its mission to foster meaningful collaborations between the arts and sciences. Kaiser Studios has already established a strong foundation in public programming, including interdisciplinary gallery talks and the popular Spoken Word: Poetry Open Mic events. Now, with the support of Ingenuity Cleveland’s Ingenuity Impact Award, earned during the Accelerate 2024 competition, Tanya Kaiser is elevating her nonprofit with the introduction of Renaissance Box. This groundbreaking residency program reimagines traditional models by pairing an artist with a STEM professional. The inaugural residency begins in January 2025 and features Cleveland-based sculptor Jonah Jacobs and neurologist Dr. Connie Pieper. Over a three-month period, they will collaborate in a private studio at Ingenuity Cleveland, exploring the intersections of art and science. Their work will be supported by resources such as studio access and guided tours of Cleveland’s cultural and scientific institutions. As part of the program, Jacobs and Dr. Pieper will mentor high school interns, offering them hands-on experience in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). These interns will gain valuable exposure to interdisciplinary practices and contribute to the development of the team’s final project. The residency will culminate in a public exhibition and community engagement event, where Jacobs and Dr. Pieper will showcase their collaborative work. This event will highlight their innovative process and outcomes while celebrating Cleveland’s position as a hub for creativity and scientific discovery. “The transition from Kaiser Gallery to the nonprofit Kaiser Studios is a natural evolution of our mission,” says founder Tanya Kaiser. “With Renaissance Box, we’re not only supporting artists—we’re building bridges between disciplines, reinforcing Cleveland’s reputation as a city where creativity and innovation thrive.” Kaiser Studios is poised to become a beacon for interdisciplinary exploration and a platform for meaningful community engagement.
